18th one!

See? I told you there was one coming soon. Good thing I didn't define "soon," or else I might be taken to task for neglecting my duties as host of this fine, fine podcast.

If you're into stoner/sludge/dirtweed metal, you can't go wrong with Weedeater's newest, called God Luck and Good Speed. It's amazing, and if you don't like it then by law I'm allowed to hunt you for sport.

weekly schmeekly!

Yes, there will be a new 'cast this week. And yes, it will be late. As usual. In the meantime, do read "the road to god knows," a work of (as Dave Eggers would say) staggering genius by a good friend of mine, Von Allan. I can speak for his character by noting that he is a Brasserie listener and a Canadian, both of which are signs of taste and good breeding.

17th one!

Okay, I'm all settled into the new place and things are calm at the moment, so I can resume throwing this thing out into the Internet and seeing what/who it hits. Not much else to report, although I am looking forward to mass quantities of turkey and stuffing tomorrow. Hope everyone else has a lovely Thanksgiving, too.

a voice from the fog

I've moved...again...so once I'm all settled the podcast will resume. And it's gonna be a real scorcher, I can guarantee that. In the meantime, fly to Japan and find a reissue of Hubble Bubble's first album. It is amazing. No other word for it. Sprouts are pretty good, too.

16th one! FINALLY

Yeah yeah, I know. Late again. Hush up, I'm trying to find a new place to live. These things take time. My dog ate it.

Anyway, people in the Baltimore area should come see Antigone at the Baltimore Shakespeare Festival. There's two weekends of it left - Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm, Sundays at 5. Ch-check it out at www.baltimoreshakespeare.org. I'm doing sound.

Also, Death Side is an awesome band. Too bad they broke up and never released any albums here.

jesus, not this again

Been busy, sick, and generally in no mood to get out of bed, let alone update a podcast. But it's time to man up, as people way cooler than me have said on countless occasions when the time for bitching gave way to a time for ACTION. So expect a new Brasserie in the next couple of days. And expect it to be awesome.

In the meantime, I picked up Nekromantix' Life Is A Grave And I Dig It not too long ago, and on the whole it's good. Pete Sandorff's guitar and backing vocals can never be replaced, but Troy Destroy (from the Rezurex) does his best to introduce a newer, more rockin' style to the band. And Nekroman is his usual campy self, which plays better on some songs than others (the title track is excellent, "Rot In Hell," well, isn't). But overall, I think it's worth getting, just allow it a few days to grow on you.

13th one!

Back on the horse we go, with another exciting addition of the Brasserie. And as of last Tuesday (the 4th), I'm 24. Hooray!

Here's the 'cast, and you'd be smart to seek out Double Negative's newest album and buy it immediately. They're kind of a cross between pre-metal CoC and Reagan Youth. That should float anyone's boat, really.

Here's the playlist:

baby's on the way!

Been on vacation for a while, but I'm back and another Brasserie is on the way! In the interim, learn to play shuffleboard, or eat delicious pie, or something. Or, and here's an actual suggestion, start listening to George Clinton immediately. Motherfucker could lay a beat down.

Also, look into the Nitz. I'll put them in the show sometime soon.

Lay-deez Night!

Well, shit. All I had to do was replace my power cable and the damned computer runs like the first day I turned it on. So with that in mind, here's a special edition of the Brasserie that's all female singers, all the time! Yes, it's Ladies' Night here on the show, and there's even a snazzy new intro to mark the occasion.

Here it is!

And here's what I played on it:
the Soviettes - Multiply and Divide
Gruk - Inconsiderate
Anna and the Psychomen - You're Nothing But A Stupid Girl
Thee Merry Widows - Cruel Mistress

slight delay

Audacity's being lame again and delaying my special "Ladies' Night" edition of the Brasserie. I may just shelve it and work on another show, but I'll see what I can do.

In the meantime, I picked up the Eat reissue and the Epoxies' Stop the Future. Both are excellent and come highly recommended by me, a guy who can't seem to update his damned podcast for more than two consecutive weeks without some major delay. Either way, pick up both albums and commence rocking out.

12th one!

Ha! It's Sunday and the new podcast is going up! Take THAT, Murphy's law! And speaking of weird things I don't understand, I saw a piece of Otakon yesterday when I met some friends in downtown Baltimore. The locals, it should be noted, do NOT get anime fandom at all, and one of them was heard to remark that "this is some fucked up white people shit." And that person was a Right Thinking American on the subject, if you ask me.

Artscape was this weekend too, so the city was pretty packed - there was even a giant pink Ferris wheel outside the Myerhoff Symphony Hall. Don't see that every day.

Anyway, here's the 'cast.

things are never easy

Okay, so I'm back from vacation and I finally have the Internet again. Which of course means that Audacity just had to go all haywire on me, so I have to redownload/install it. I'm like Charlie Brown and his football here. It really never ends. Hopefully I'll get the next podcast up by Sunday, but who knows at this point. Stay tuned though, I will jump this hurdle.

yet another update!

I'll try to get the 12th podcast up tonight or tomorrow, but there's a good chance it won't happen since I'm going on vacation next week and need to prepare/pack accordingly. So you may have to wait until after July 8th for the next edition of the ol' Brasserie.

In the meantime, the Eat are now officially reissued by Alternative Tentacles. Buy it, you scurvy dogs!

eleventh one!

Well, so much for Thursday. A few computer issues kept this one a little longer than I'd anticipated, but c'est la vie.

Be sure to check out the newest Tiger Army album, Music From Regions Beyond. They're still trying to be Joy Division more than they try to be Tiger Army, but there are a couple of real sizzlers on this album.

update!

The 11th Brasserie will be up on Thursday, it looks like. Trying to get a regular sleep schedule going (and that's not going too well, as you might guess from seeing what time this gets posted), and I've been visiting friends and family lately. But it'll be up this week, by Thunder!

In the meantime, check out 7 Inch Punk for some great rarities from yesteryear and today...year? Yeah, that sounds off. Just click the damn link, I'm tired.

tenth one!

My tenth podcast is here. Not much of a milestone, but at least the number of shows matches the number of subscribers now. Of course, next week the former will surpass the latter. Sigh. I relaunched my wrestling blog recently, too, so June is apparently the month where DK sticks to things. Must be all the pollen keeping me indoors.

Got a job interview tomorrow; imagine, I might just have a full-time job by this point next month. I might have to wear pants every day. This is unprecendented.

Anyway, in lieu of further witticisms, here's this week's podcast, fresh out of Audacity.

ninth one!

Woo hoo! I kept my promise! The ninth podcast is up and running, and I might just get this weekly update thing going yet.

In the meantime, you should order Jellyroll Rockheads' complete discography immediately. It's the most fun, inventive thrash you'll probably ever hear, and it's cheap. Just don't play it around people prone to migraines, or their heads will explode..

Speaking of, here's this week's 'cast.

update!

The ninth podcast should be uploaded here by tonight, methinks. I suggest dropping your jaws now to save time, because this show is a real sizzler. I'm still working out kinks in my schedule, but I'll be back to something regular pretty soon. How often have I said that here? Oh well.

In the meantime, read this essay I wrote about professional wrestling. It sort of sloughed off from my senior seminar paper and became something apparently publishable. And it's nice to be able to tell other wrestling fans that I'm a published author on the subject, if only because it makes my angry smarking sound more important.

eighth one!

FINALLY.

Jesus, was this one a long time in coming, but my schedule cleared up a little today, so I got a chance to put up a new Brasserie. Still not sure what my new address will be, but hopefully that will all get sorted out next week. seventh one!

And the beat goes on, in the words of a band I sadly lack the rights/permission to play (the Screamers, in case you care). Sorry this one's up late, but it's been a busy week, what with preparing to move and all. Still not sure where I'm headed, but the list is narrowing down ever so slowly.

Very stoked about Alternative Tentacles reissuing the Eat, which I found out about after I decided to include them on the show. It's cool that AT is putting out some of these "Killed By Death" bands that would be lost to time otherwise, and a worthwhile endeavor as long as they don't overdo it. But given Jello Biafra's perpetual disdain for nostalgia, I don't think that'll happen.

Anydangways, here's this week's cast.

And the playlist:
Me First and the Gimmie Gimmies - Ghost Riders In the Sky

Hello, all. Apologies for my voice this time around, but I'm stricken with some allergy or another and am completely stopped up as a result. Bear with me and my unbearably nasal enunciation, especially since I don't talk as much this time anyway.

Here's this week's 'cast, and if anyone knows someplace where I can upload future podcasts for free, email me (kiefda03 at gmail.com). I could use one, since my current servermeister graduates this year and thereby loses his college upload space.

third one!

Woohoo! The third installment of the Brasserie arrives after a lengthy hiatus due to work and not having webhosting for a while there. But I am a faithful lapdog of my listeners, if they exist, and shall bring forth musics to entertain them forthwith!

...ya know, I'm never exactly sure what to say in the actual posts here. I think the show and the music really speak for themselves, and I don't have anything terribly relevant to add here, except to add that this show isn't meant as a trashing of the American Hardcore book or DVD. I liked and recommend both as vital histories of the music and as resources for bands you don't hear much about anymore.
I just hate it when bands of a certain era pause from their ceaseless bickering over who invented what (which I also hate) to shit on the new generation of bands in their genre because dammit, THEY invented it and it should have died with them, ostensibly because it would have made them look cool and iconic instead of like a circlejerk (no pun intended) of bitter has-beens living off their past glory. Punk and hardcore shouldn't die just because they decided not to play it anymore, and it's kind of sad to see these guys pat themselves on the back for inspiring each other and then turn around and disparage newer bands just because a) they inspired something they didn't expect or b) they can't keep up with the kids. Or c) they think the only thing going in hardcore now is the boring, metal-in-girl-pants stuff that Alternative Press calls hardcore. In which case, they're dead wrong.

Wow, turns out I did know what to say. Sort of. Here's the podcast.

first one!

Holy crap, my first podcast. I feel so fragile. So vulnerable. So unable to come up with any more witty remarks on the subject. So I won't. Instead, I'll shut my e-yap (or is it iYap these days?) and let people enjoy the first of what I hope will be many editions of DK's Brasserie.

Oh, and if you're in a band and you hear yourself against your wishes, or if you run a label and hear one of your bands against your wishes, let me know and I won't play the offending material any more. I'm not trying to rip anyone off or get sued; all I want to do is play music I like for whoever seeks it out.
